What Is the CT Dose Check Standard, and Why Do CT Scanners Need to Be in Compliance? PDF Print E-mail

A recent survey of ACR Dose Index Registry® participants demonstrated that nearly half were not aware of or familiar with the CT Dose Check standard, which includes CT Dose Alert and CT Dose Notification [1]. This highlights the need for education and outreach to effectively implement the standard. Especially given that a provision in US federal legislation signed into law in 2014 mandates that CMS, starting in 2016, reimburse at a lower rate for certain diagnostic CT scans performed on CT scanners in physicians’ offices or in the hospital outpatient setting that do not meet all four attributes of the Medical Imaging & Technology Alliance (MITA) Smart Dose CT standard, including CT Dose Check [2].
