Interest in global health has been on the rise over the past two decades, with a surge of involvement by the medical education community in recent years. In 2010, 30.8% of graduating medical students reported global health experience [1]. Opportunities for participation in international health programs by postgraduate medical trainees in many specialties are many, with 74% of pediatric residency programs, 69% of emergency medicine programs, and 67% of family medicine programs offering international electives according to the AMA’s FREIDA Online database [2].
