The demand for health care quality improvement (QI) has gained progressive momentum in recent years. In 2015, the secretary of Health and Human Services, Sylvia Burwell, announced value-based payment goals whereby “85% of all Medicare fee-for-service payments [would be] tied to quality or value by 2016, and 90% by 2018” [1]. This change from care centered on the needs of health care providers to care centered on the needs of patients will not occur overnight. The solo-physician-as-caregiver model is moving to that of a multidisciplinary team working synergistically to achieve the common goal of better health for individual patients.
